Abstract
R&Ds and standardization activities of Next-Generation (NG) passive optical network (PON) have been underway, which will upgrade beyond 10G-PON existing commercial Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) systems. NG-PON1 aims at an evolutional growth of gigabit-PON, while, on the other hand, NG-PON2 coming after NG-PON1 will bring a revolution change and is planned to be standardized by 2015. NG-PON2 includes several technology candidates such as 40/100G TDMA, DWDMA, OCDMA, and OFDMA.
