Abstract
Low-temperature (15 K) absorption spectra have been taken on two single crystals of Cr3+-doped Y3Al5O12 (YAG). The optical measurements were made on samples in the form of discs cut parallel to the (111) planes of the crystal. The absorption spectra were measured between 0.7 and 0.22 μm with a Cary Model 2390 spectrophotometer whose resolution was better than 1 A. The crystals contained 1.20 and 0.01 at. % chromiun based on aluminum.
