Abstract
A chromium-doped forsterite laser was constructed to study the lasing properties of this material. The laser was pumped longitudinally with a tunable alexandrite laser. Experiments were performed to measure the slope efficiency, temporal profile and spectral profile of the chromium-doped forsterite emission. These measurements were conducted for three different alexandrite pump wavelengths. A four-level model was developed to describe the dynamics of the processes involved in the Cr-doped forsterite laser emission.
