Abstract
Excited state absorption spectra were measured for Cr2+:ZnSe in the spectral range between 1.2 and 3 µm at room temperature. Stimulated emission band was observed from 2 to 3 µm with peak cross section of 8×10−19 cm2 at 2400 nm. Excited state absorption was shown to be negligible in the pump and laser range. Efficient continuous wave laser operation of Cr2+:ZnSe laser was demonstrated with output power as high as 1W at 1670 mW of absorbed power.
