Abstract

Diode-pumped microchip laser oscillation of highly Nd3+-doped polycrystalline YAG ceramics has been realized. The loss of a 2.3 at. % Nd3+-doped ceramic YAG is as low as that of a 0.9 at. % NdYAG single crystal. Using a 3.4 at. % NdYAG ceramic, 2.3 times higher microchip laser power is obtained than with a 0.9 at. % Nd:YAG single crystal.
