Abstract
The Erbium:YAG laser may be of future importance in performing pars plana vitrectomy. Previous in-vitro experiments have demonstrated a high efficiency for vitreous liquefaction and fragmentation [1-3]. Furthermore, it has been promised that the high cutting rate available from modern Erbium:YAG laser systems might result in a reduced suction force during vitrectomy [3].
