Abstract
A time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC) system has been developed for use with living specimens as part of a fluorescence-mediated molecular tomography scanner. This system has been used to measure the bulk optical properties of mouse tissues. Absorption coefficients were found to be 0.15 - 0.3 cm−1, while reduced scattering coefficients were measured to be 1.5 - 5.0 cm−1. The variability of the results recommend the determination of optical properties for each subject in order to improve the accuracy of fluorescence tomography reconstruction.
