Abstract
Tissue in the near-infrared (NIR) is heterogeneous in both its absorption and scattering properties. Reconstruction methods for NIR imaging have, in the past, not been able to completely separate these two parameters as well as would be desired. Strategies for more complete separation of absorbing and scattering heterogeneities for reconstructed NIR tomographic images are investigated in both numerical simulations and phantom studies. In this study, two specific approaches are considered: (a) scattering reconstruction based on phase only data, and (b) the use of multiple modulation frequencies.
