Abstract
The growing interest In the use of lasers for diverse applications calls for development of high-brightness laser sources operating in the single mode over extended frequency intervals, approaching the entire gain bandwidth of their active media. Design of these lasers is not a simple task, especially when one has to deal with active media characterized by very broad bandwidths with relatively low-peak gains. The problem has been generally addressed by the use of optical cavities equipped with a combination of multiple frequency-incommensurate selective elements. These configurations are usually quite inadequate in terms of tunability, which is usually extremely complex to obtain, and in terms of Insertion losses that severely limit their utilization with low-gain lasers.
