Abstract
We have operated a visible BaB2O4 optical parametric oscillator (OPO) pumped by a single-axial-mode coherent source. An average power of 120 mW with an OPO energy conversion efficiency of 16% was achieved. The 355-nm pump radiation was obtained by third harmonic generation of the output of an injection seeded and Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. BaB2O4 (BBO) is of interest for ultraviolet pumped OPOs because of its high-avexage-power capability and favorable mechanical and optical characteristics. Single-axial-mode pumping is important for improved stability of the OPO output.
