Abstract
Pulse-train compression based on stimulated Brillouin backward amplification In sulfur hexafluoride gas has been demonstrated using laser pulses generated from a XeCI laser with a stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) reflector. The exclmer laser output, which consisted of a series of periodic pulse segments with consecutive SBS frequency shifts, was compressed into a periodic train of short pulses with a corresponding frequency stagger. Conversion efficiencies of up to 40% in a pulse segment were obtained.
