Abstract
Thulium cascade laser operation using resonant pumping was first reported1 in Tm3+:YLF using a ruby laser to pump the 3H4 → 3F3 transition. Recently Tm3+:YLF was pumped with alexandrite and laser diodes, and the 2.3-µm transition was observed.2,3 We report the first observation of Tm3+ laser action in fluorozirconate glass. The Er3+ transition near 3 µm was recently lased in Er3+:YLF using a GaAIAs laser diode pump source.4 The first Er3+ 2.70-μm laser in fluorozirconate glass is reported.
