Abstract
Results of an experimental investigation of phase conjugation by stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) are reported in which the pump beam was aberrated by a turbulent interface. The study was directed toward characterizing the effects of turbulent aberrations on SBS reflectivity and conjugation fidelity. Experiments were conducted in the near transient SBS regime in which the pulse width was ~ 5 times the phonon lifetime. Characteristic turbulent time scales, however, were large compared to the phonon lifetime.
