Abstract
Four-wave mixing in semiconductor laser amplifiers (SLAs) has a great potential to convert optical frequencies in multichannel transmission networks.1-3 Although frequency converted light can be generated with relatively low input power (below 1 mW), the problem for practical use is that the original light frequency also appears at SLA output. One solution to this problem is setting an optical filter at the SLA output.3 However, this configuration is restricted to convert frequency in a one-way direction, e.g., f1 → f2, not the reverse conversion of f2 → f1.
