Abstract
Excimer lasers are the most promising coherent sources of highest power and efficiency in the UV region of the spectrum. Successful generation of ultrashort pulses using dye lasers and their wavelength conversion technologies stimulate development of high power subpicosecond UV light pulses using excimer gain media as an amplifier. Amplification of 160-fs pulses in a XeCl excimer gain module has been reported.1,2 The use of such systems can increase the available range of optical field strength to 1017 W/cm2.
