Abstract
Recently, the parasitic-free frequency responses of semiconductor diode lasers were measured by photomixing1 and facet pump optical modulation2 techniques. The use of optical modulation provides a unique diagnostic tool for the design of high frequency lasers because the parasitic effect is absent. In the optical modulation experiment, a do bias current is applied on the probe laser. The pump laser is rf modulated, and its optical power is injected onto the facet of a probe laser. The frequency response of the probe laser under optical modulation by the pump laser light is measured.
