Abstract
The intrinsic efficiency of an electron-beam pumped laser is defined to be a ratio of the laser output energy to the energy deposited into the gas by the pulsed electron beam. This is a critical parameter in the design of large laser drivers, since tor a given output energy it impacts the ultimate size of the system and hence Its cost. It is, therefore, essential that accurate measurements of the intrinsic efficiency be made to compare with kinetics code predictions. Although the laser output energy can be measured accurately (assuming the detector is calibrated), it is much more difficult to determine the deposited energy.
