Abstract
Precise control of waveguide birefringence between TM and TE modes is required for various integrated-optic devices with a desired polarization dependence or independence.1 This paper describes laser trimming of amorphous silicon stress-applying films on silica waveguides for adjusting waveguide birefringence. A practical application to polarization-insensitive optical ring resonators is also presented.
