Abstract
We report an experimental optical analog link with an input rf sensitivity only 6 dB above the thermal noise limit and an intermodulation-free dynamic range (at a 10-Hz noise bandwidth) of 104 dB. The link contains no electronic amplifiers and yet still has an rf to rf gain of 11 dB at 60 MHz. This performance level was achieved by using a very sensitive external modulator and a diode pumped Nd:YAG laser source that coupled 55 mW of optical power into the input fiber.
