Abstract
The dispersion of a Faraday rotator can be compensated by the dispersion of an optically active rotator to improve the wavelength independence of a Faraday isolator by more than an order of magnitude. This concept was applied by Iwamura and co-workers1 in the wavelength range between 1.1 and 1.5 μm. In their experiment, a broadband isolator is made by inserting a 45° YIG Faraday rotator and a 45° quartz optically active rotator between two polarizers set at 90° to each other.
