Abstract
High efficiencies in Sow power laser-pumped oscillators are usually accomplished by using a tightly focused end-pumped geometry. In this respect, mode matching has to be considered to optimize both the resonator parameters and gain profile. The properties of an optical resonator having a radially varying gain profile are usually described by means of complex ABCD matrices assuming a gain profile whose transverse extent is larger than that of the mode under consideration. This approach predicts complex Laguerre-Gauss eigenmodes of any order, with the TEM00 mode exhibiting the lowest loss.1
