Abstract
The efficiency of nanosecond pumped dye amplifiers for femtosecond pulses is limited by gain saturation,1 the short storage time of the gain medium, and the large time duration mismatch between the pump and seed pulses. The popular six-pass bow tie configuration1 typically amplifies femtosecond pulses from the CPM laser2 to the microjoule range with 0.1% efficiency. Here we report the design and performance of copper vapor laser (CVL) pumped amplifiers for CPM pulses. Thanks to a series of improvements summarized below, we have achieved to date 1.5% efficiency in a single stage multipass design. Amplified pulses with 10-μJ energy and 65-fs duration are obtained.
