Abstract
It has been previously demonstrated that a stimulated photon echo—the optical coherent transient resulting from illuminating an. inhomogeneously broadened absorbing medium with a series of optical pulses—can approximate the cross-correlation between separate input pulses.1 Specifically, the coherent transient of interest has the form E1(t) ⊗ [E2(t) * E3(1)], where Ep(t) represents the envelope of the pth pulse in time, and ⊗ (*) represents crosscorrelation (convolution). This result depends on the pulses not saturating the transition and the inhomogeneous linewidth exceeding the bandwidth of the pulses.
