Abstract
Statistical quality and process control is an essential requirement for the modern factory. In a computer-integrated production environment, on-line sensors capable of continuous and un-attended operation are needed to collect the data on which such controls are based. Optical sensors constitute an attractive choice for such tasks thanks to their intrinsic resolution, noncontact operation, and increasing ruggedness and affordability.
