Abstract
The frequency-doubled, long-pulse alexandrite laser has been considered as a possible source for energetic, near-UV pulses in applications requiring fiber delivery, such as medicine. Enhanced second-harmonic generation (SHG) has been obtained by using an unstable resonator with a variable-reflectivity-mirror (VRM) output coupler. Such a resonator has been demonstrated to use the available gain volume effectively and to produce very-high-quality beams.1,2
