Abstract
High-speed photodiodes are important elements for optical interconnects in optoelectronic integrated circuits, optical measurement techniques, and fiber communication. Much effort has therefore been focused on the optimization of three types of devices, the metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) photodiode, the P-I-N photodiode, and the avalanche photodiode (APD), all of which may be designed to operate at gigahertz bandwidths.
