Abstract
Coherent continuous-wave operation of linear grating-surface-emitting (GSE) lasers have previously demonstrated narrow linewidths1 operating at 1.2 × Ith. In this paper we report narrow linewidth operation of linear GSE arrays at drive currents up to eight times threshold. We also report narrow linewidth operation of 2-D GSE arrays operating at above two times threshold. The 2-D arrays differ from the 1-D arrays in that the former has ten parallel ridge-guided elements in each gain section compared to a single ridge-guided laser in each gain section in the latter.
