Abstract
It is known that borates exist in a wide variety of structure types such as the BO3, BO4, B3O6 and B3O7 anionic groups. According to the anionic group theory of the NLO effect, the B3O7 group is the ideal basic structure unit for new UV NLO crystal.1 Ine B3O7 group is favorable not only for producing a relatively large SHG coefficient but also for transmitting UV light. We have therefore focused our efforts on borates with B3O7 groups as the basic structure units in our search of new NLO materials, which led to the discovery of another new UV NLO crystal CsB3O5 (CBO) after LBO.
