Abstract
Volume holography has been studied for some time for use in large capacity (Tbits), fast access time (microsecond) storage systems. However, a major problem so far in achieving a practical system has been the lack of suitable materials with long storage times (years) at room temperature. While great attention has been paid to rewriteable techniques, many applications based on write-once-read-many (WORM) or read-only-memory (ROM) storage of large volumes of data exist. For these applications, robust (long storage time), high density (short write wavelength), high optical quality, and inexpensive media are desirable.
