Abstract
Figure 1 shows a second-harmonic generation (SHG) device based on a new quasiphase-matching (QPM) scheme incorporating half-the-harmonic-wavelength (X2ω/2n2ω) thick (lll)-oriented GaP/AlP layers in a cavity. The difference in the magnitude of second-order nonlinear optical coefficient d between GaP and A1P provides a spatial modulation of the nonlinearity along the longitudinal axis of the cavity as shown by the square wave (a) in the lower part of Fig. 2. The square wave (b) shows the profile of d in the conventional QPM structure composed of half-the-coherence-length (lc/2) thick layers.
