Abstract
The 3-dB bandwidth of a single sideband (SSB) electro-optic (EO) modulator with [111]-cut CdTe crystals totaling 11.6 cm in length placed inside a Ku-band 5.46-mm square waveguide was shown1 to be limited to about 1.5 GHz. The bandwidth limitation was caused by the phase velocity mismatch between the optical beam and the microwave circuit due to the microwave circuit dispersion.2
