Abstract
Ti:sapphire offers one of the largest optical bandwidths for short light pulse generation.1 Its relative linewidth (the ratio of the fluorescence bandwidth to the central frequency of the optical transition) is close to 0.3, hence this gain medium is potentially capable of supporting single-optical-cycle pulses of a duration of ≈3 fs in a laser oscillator.
