Abstract
Existing schemes to generate multiwavelength optical pulses include the mode-locking of fiber ring laser using a birefringent cavity,1 mode-locking of semiconductor laser in two external cavities,2 generation of supercontinuum in optical fibers,3 and active mode-locking of a multichannel grating cavity laser4 We present here a relatively simple approach of generating dual-wavelength picosecond optical pulses by self-injection seeding of a noncoated Fabry-Perot (F-P) laser diode.5 The output wavelengths and their spacing are timed by adjusting the electrical frequency and the length of the dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF).
