Abstract

Although many publications on the use of diode lasers for gaseous state atomic and molecular spectroscopy can be found in the literature,1 there are few papers on applications in the liquid state. The main reason is that spectral features in the liquid state are much broader than the gas analogues, and the advantages offered by semiconductor lasers such as reliability, compactness, and high-speed modulation are hindered by the limited spectral coverage. However, it is hoped that liquid detection is done by a quick, compact method for many processes in chemistry and industrial quality control.
