Abstract
The focusing ability of ultraintense laser systems is an important factor difficult to control and for many applications a key parameter is the power density (i.e., the amount of power available in the focal area) rather than the power delivered on the target. In practice, the ability to focus intense beams is limited by phase distortions. We have developed a technique based on a feed-back loop between a spatial phase sensor and a wave-front corrector.1,2
