Abstract
Photonic crystal materials and devices with periodical structures have wide applications in the modern photonic field. Great interests have paid to study the optical properties of photonic structures with different theoretical and experimental approaches. The differences in the results generated by different methods remain due to lack of detailed comparison and analysis. Particularly, it is difficult to compare the results that can not be achieved in experiments. In this work, we designed some modes of one-dimensional photonic crystal structures, and used the transfer matrix method (TMM) and plane wave method (PWM) to numerically study the band structures and optical characteristics such as the dispersion, transmission and reflection. Detailed comparison and analysis are made to reveal the difference arising from the mechanisms based on different modeling and boundary conditions in assumption.
