Abstract
The optical transfer function (OTF) is the basic characteristic responsible for image transfer through scattering media (aerosol atmosphere, clouds, fogs).1 The mutual coherence function (MCF) of the light field is of great importance for the coherent communication systems. The MCF and the OTF of a scattering medium depends on its microstructure and thickness. To study the effect of the microstructure on the image transfer characteristics the Mie calculations are used to obtain single scattering characteristics and then the Monte Carlo simulations provide OTFs. It is a reliable but cumbersome and time-consuming technique.
