Abstract
FELIX, the ‘Free Electron Laser for Infrared experiments’ was built by the Dutch foundation for fundamental research on matter, FOM, with the aim of providing the international scientific community with an intense, tuneable source of short pulses of radiation in the far infrared (5 μm - 100 μm). Work is currently in progress to extend the wavelength range to 300 μm. The FELIX user facility became operational in 1992 and now provides more than 3000 hours of beam time per year to users with applications in physics, chemistry, biology and medicine.
