Abstract
The flexibility of computer-generated holograms (CGHs) permits to change an incoming wavefront in an almost arbitrary manner. For the design of CGHs for beam-shaping different parameters can be taken into accout. We use a geometrical optics approach to calculate elementary hologram functions which reconstruct simple intensity distributions. An object-oriented hologram design can be performed by combining the elementary focal patterns. The simulated reconstructions from phase-only hologram functions agree very well with the optical reconstructions.
