Abstract

The constant evolution of high power semiconductor laser sources has encouraged many groups to develop numerical methods for the calculation of the field intensity in the laser cavity. However, very few results have been reported about the comparison of experiment and simulations. In this contribution we present a 2D-model of tapered lasers and amplifiers, compare the calculations with experiment and derive some design tools for the optimization of tapered amplifiers and lasers.
