Abstract
Both, the nonlinear coherent and incoherent interaction between light fields and the microscopic carrier dynamics within a semiconductor laser determine the physical properties of the whole device, i.e. its spatial, spectral and temporal emission characteristics Time-resolved investigations of these physical processes with a propagating fs-pulse provide direct insight into the ultrafast gain and refractive index dynamics which is of particular interest, e.g. for high-speed optical amplification or optical switching.
