Abstract
Similar to conventional nonlinear crystals, which revolutionized the nonlinear optics in the 1960, becoming a routine tool of nonlinear-optical experiments nowadays, nonlinear photonic crystals [1] seem to offer much promise for the conceptual and technical progress in various fields of modern nonlinear optics. Ideas of nonlinear-optical diodes and switches, compact pulse compressors, and frequency converters have been actively discussed in the last few years, revealing a high potential of such devices for both fundamental studies and applications [2].
