Abstract
Recently, there has been an increased interest in waveguide optical modulators and switches for monolithic photonic integrated circuit development [1]. Among them are semiconductor electro-optic modulators (EOM), which have drawn a significant attention for their large modulation bandwidth and low chirping. One of their drawbacks is, however, a large switching voltage, which is mainly due to their weak electrooptic effect. In this paper, we investigated the possibilities of reducing the switching voltage by incorporating nonlinear electrooptic effects [2].
