Abstract
It is shown that a planar multimode waveguide formed by two parallel metal mirrors works as a new type of an interferometer with fringe spacing much smaller than the wavelength of light. The fringe spacings as small as 1/9 are demonstrated experimentally and periods as small as l/1000 seem to be feasible.
