Abstract
Optical interconnections and datacom applications will lead up to an increase of the bit rate to 12.5Gb/s in uncooled condition to maintain the low cost requirement. Nowadays, significant progress has been accomplished in the long-wavelength VCSEL technology, leading them to work at 10 Gb/s [1]. We experimentally evaluated the capability of 1.3 μm VCSEL to operate up to 12.5 Gb/s. In particular, error free transmission up to uncompensated 20 km of SSMF has been demonstrated for 1.33 μm VCSEL for different operating temperatures (20°C–70°C) at 12.5 Gb/s in order to verify its exploitation in uncooled condition.
