Abstract

The third generation gravitational wave detectors (GWD) demand stable, single frequency, linearly polarized lasers operating at a kW level with a fundamental Gaussian beamprofile. Within the framework of the Advanced LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) project, a single frequency Nd:YAG laser system, with an output power in excess of 200 W, was delivered recently. This system utilizes an injection locked asymmetric ring resonator [1]. Unfortunately, this present scheme is not easily scalable to the desired power level of 1 kW.
