Abstract
Diabetes mellitus patients have to monitor their blood glucose level several times per day to avoid unhealthy hyper- and hypoglycemic condition. Until today this involves puncturing the fingertip to sustain a blood sample. This procedure is uncomfortable especially if frequently performed, bears the risk of infections and is no continuous measurement technique, which would be ideal for glycemic control. Hence a non-invasive glucose sensor would greatly increase the quality of life of diabetes patients. Thitherto no non-invasive glucose sensor is on the market. An overview of the broad research activity and numerous companies involved in this area is given in [1].
