Abstract
SESAM modelocked thin-disk lasers (TDLs) are the best-suited oscillator technology for achieving high pulse energy and average output power. Pulse energies > 41 µJ [1] and average output powers of 275 W [2]have been achieved directly from the oscillator with pulses longer than 500 fs. Their high pulse energies obtained at multi-megahertz repetition rates are in principle very promising for experiments in extreme nonlinear optics such as high harmonic generation (HHG)[3]. However, for such experiments, realizing shorter pulse durations (<200 fs) is crucial.
