Abstract
The physical mechanisms and optical properties governing light trapping in the form of the so-called Whispering-Gallery Modes (WGM) in circular micro-resonator structures (discs, spheres and toroids) have been of high interest in the area of photonics [1, 2]. Excitation of the microcavity through evanescent-field coupling involves waveguides, fiber tips, prisms and tapered optical fibers positioned at evanescent-field proximity [3, 4].
