Abstract
The electromagnetic excitation of the metallic nanoparticles has attracted a great interest in the past decade due to the ability of surface plasmons to concentrate light at nanometer scale [1]. Short metal nanorod chains supporting localized surface plasmons can be integrated and coupled to Silicon On Insulator (SOI) waveguides at telecom wavelengths [2]. At resonance the nanorod chain behaves as a waveguide which is highly coupled to the SOI waveguide. In that case almost all the TE mode energy can be transferred to one or several nanorods. The high optical density supported by the nanorods is then able to capture nano- or microparticles by optomechanical effect. We show here a very first demonstration of guided nanotweezer behavior with such a system.
